Important update: Fitbit has moved to Google Health, and the old Fitbit connection in RISE no longer works. To keep your Fitbit sleep data flowing into RISE, you need to sync it through Google Health. This takes only a few of minutes and only needs to be done once.
How to connect Fitbit on iOS
- Open Google Health (the app that used to be Fitbit) and finish any device updates or Google prompts it asks for.
- If the Today tab shows a Review Apple Health permissions card, tap it and turn on Sleep. Then skip to step 4.
- Otherwise, tap the battery percentage in the top left, then tap Apps and services. Under Add connections, tap Apple Health and follow the prompts, making sure Sleep is on.
- Make sure RISE can read your sleep: open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then tap Apps, then Rise Sleep, and check that Sleep is turned on.
How to connect Fitbit on Android
- Open Google Health (the app that used to be Fitbit) and finish any device updates or Google prompts it asks for.
- Tap the battery percentage in the top left.
- Under Apps and services, tap Partner apps, then Set up, then Accept.
- When Health Connect asks to allow access, turn on Allow all and tap Allow. On the next screen, allow access in the background so your sleep syncs overnight.
- Make sure RISE can read your sleep: open Health Connect (in your phone's Settings, search for "Health Connect"), tap App permissions, then RISE, and turn on Sleep.
When you don't wear your Fitbit to bed, RISE falls back to automatic phone motion-based sleep detection.
Troubleshooting Fitbit issues
If RISE isn't showing your Fitbit sleep data:
- Check that your sleep appears in Google Health. Open the Google Health app and confirm last night's sleep shows up there. If it doesn't, sync your Fitbit device first. RISE can only see what Google Health has.
- Check the connection steps above. Make sure you completed every step for your phone, especially turning on Sleep permissions in both Google Health and the Health / Health Connect side.
- Android only: confirm background access is allowed in Health Connect so your sleep can sync overnight.
- Open Google Health once and let it sync. Then force close the RISE app and reopen it.
- Give it a few hours for it to sync. New sleep data may take a while to show up after you first connect.
